The JUNK Road Reaper is one of the most decorated wheels in inline speed skating, and this is the XFirm version at 110mm, sold as a full set of eight. It is the grippier of the two firmness options, made for hard, smooth, dry race surfaces where you need the wheel to hold.
Race pedigree
The Road Reaper has a serious record at the top of the sport. At the 2019 World Championships it won the Senior and Junior men's 100 metres, with Daniel Greig of Australia and Sabien Tinson of the USA. Ioseba Fernandez set the 100m world record on Road Reaper wheels at the 2018 Inline Speed Skating World Championships in the Netherlands. On the distance side, Ken Kuwada took the American Triple Crown on Road Reapers, winning the North Shore Inline Marathon in Duluth, the New York 100K, and Athens to Atlanta, the world's longest ultra marathon skate race at 87 miles. From sprints to ultra distance, this wheel has done it.
Specification
- Diameter: 110mm
- Hardness: XFirm, 84 to 86A
- Quantity: set of 8 wheels
- Best for: track, road, marathon and ultra marathon, especially hard, smooth, dry conditions
XFirm or XXFirm, which to choose
XFirm at 84 to 86A is the softer of the two, which gives more grip. That is what you want when the surface is hard, smooth and dry, because a harder wheel can start to slip in those conditions. If you want the most roll and outright speed instead, look at the harder Road Reaper XXFirm at 86 to 88A.
Fit and setup
These are 110mm wheels, so they fit frames set up for a 110 wheel. A set of eight covers a standard four wheel per foot inline speed frame. You will need sixteen 608 bearings and the correct spacers to run them, which you can add from our speed bearings collection.
